2019 Updates

Hello Visitors and Welcome,

I’m posting a general update today, May 10, 2019, to let everyone know of the general status of this blog.

Over the years, I have grown my business from installing container gardens to providing a mix of wonderful hands-on plant related workshops at my Broad Brook, CT location and host sites, growing plants of my own to offer in season (such as tomato and pepper starters), and creating a mix of special and unique plant gifts by request.

Installing container gardens at people’s homes and businesses is still a big passion of mine and each situation is very unique. Unlike traditional landscape jobs, I focus on the unique aspects of each individual client and install primarily only container gardens, patio pots, and/or interior pots for my clients. I do not specialize in landscapes and/or traditional larger commercial settings, but focus on small business and special clients’ unique needs for enhancing their indoor and outdoor spaces. Container Gardening is one of my many current services. I enjoy the entire processing of learning about your specific needs and hand-selecting the right plants and look for you.

In addition to offering container garden install services for homeowners and small businesses, my hands-on plant related workshops are fun and festive, and all include a component of learning about botany, horticulture, and plants. We offered seasonal workshops in spring, summer, fall, winter, and for special holidays. Many are focused on providing indoor and outdoor decor elements to beautify your home surroundings. However, all workshops were cancelled in 2020 due to Covid-19. We offer workshops kits going forward.

Also during the month of May, I offer unique and heirloom tomato and pepper plants, which I grow myself using certified organic seeds. The entire process from start to finish is extremely rewarding.

I do not have a physical store but you may schedule visits by appointment at my location in Broad Brook, CT. All of my workshop offerings are listed on the website noted below, and also there is a new WORKSHOPS tab on this site with the dates scheduled for 2019. You are welcome to visit by appointment anytime to see what I have in stock for plants.

I offer “demonstrations” at farmers markets, farms, and garden clubs from time to time. You may find me at Ellington’s Farmers Market or Strong Family Farm on special dates. This year, my workshop at Strong Family Farm is on May 18, 2019 at 11 am. And I will be at the Ellington Market this fall on September 28, 2019, Saturday. You will find me at their white gazebo offering a free presentation. I will be speaking at the West Hartford Garden Club this fall as well on October 10, 2019 at 1 pm.

Some of the topics I’ve been offering are: seed starting, growing micro-greens and sprouts at home, container gardening workshops, succulent topped pumpkin workshops, terrarium workshops with houseplants, cacti, or succulents, how to overwinter tropical plants, bulb forcing in winter months, etc. Each year new topics surface.

Examples of plant gifts have been creating small planters as gifts, holiday themed table seating votives, terrariums for the office, wreaths with special plants, holiday wreaths and kissing balls with fresh greens, and other goodies. I also offer gift certificates which make wonderful gifts for the plant lovers in your life.

Container gardening drove me to all of the above. I thoroughly enjoy designing, selecting the plants for them, and advising clients on how to care for their installed container gardens. I hope you will reach out to learn more about me!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,

Cathy Testa
